Butterfly Nebula
IC 1318 names the vast hydrogen clouds around the star Gamma Cygni, in the summer Milky Way. It is sometimes called the Butterfly Nebula because of its extended lobes. A few thousand light-years away, it is a star-forming region: the glowing gas is ionised by very hot stars.
